Hi Y'all...
Just a short post to give an Emmah update.
We're still in the process of finishing up scans and such... need to establish a baseline for her condition as we go forward. She also has to see the dentist to make sure that there's nothing that could cause problems in her mouth... cavities, loose teeth and so on... don't need ANY opening for an infection to to take hold.
If you've been paying attention in our little blog world here, you know that she was in last week for a couple of scans... a bone scan and a CT. The bone scan came back normal, that is to say no evidence in the bones. The CT came back showing no evidence of tumor, so that was good news. What the CT did show was that her left kidney is showing hydronephrosis. Hydronephrosis is defined as a dilation of the branches and pelvic cavity of the kidney, caused by an accumulation of urine resulting from obstruction of normal outflow.
So she's in today for a BMA... bone marrow aspirate... to make sure it hasn't made it's way to the marrow. Even though every BMA she's had (this is her third I believe) has come back negative, they still need to do it. While she's there, they are going to have a look see at that kidney to figure out what's going on with it. She's not in any pain, and there seems to be no problems with her output, so we were a bit surprised to hear that there was something going on with the kidney. Hopefully it's something that's acute and not chronic.
This coming Wednesday we go in for a MIBG, that's the scan that shows if there are any active neuroblastoma cells. After that, we go to Children's for a consult on Friday and to find out when Emmah and I will be checking in.
Well, as I was writing this the phone rang and it was Julie, and she said that it (the kidney) seems to have a kink in there... what that means in terms of fixing it remains to be seen. Sometimes it takes care of it itself... well that's what Julie was told. Guess what... we have yet another appointment, on Wednesday... this time with the specialist to determine what is going to need to be done. I feel another all day affair coming on...
That's it from here for now...

At times unwanted, but often are we uncomfortably thrust into living with it. To borrow part of a line from the movie Heartbreak Ridge, "You adapt, you overcome"...

A small request... please
I have a small request and it won't take up much of your time.
Now that Emmah's spirit has left her physical body behind and has completed it's journey "home" I would very much like if you could all take a moment and reflect on Emmah... whether you knew her personally or not. Let us know how she touched/affected or made a difference in your life.
I especially would like to hear from those of you who know/knew her, what your fondest memory or memories of her are. Funny stories and what you remember her likes and dislikes to be (no matter what they are) and what word/words you would use to describe her.
In order to keep all of those thoughts in one place, please, please use this link only for this purpose only.
Thank-you
KEIYH
